DCRJ's Movie Reviews: THE ARTIST (2011)
I saw THE ARTIST (2011) in a Sunday afternoon at home March 4, 2012. A black and white silent film done in 2011 but feels like it was filmed in the late 1920s. Story of George Valentin (Rudolph Valentino ring a bell?) who was famous in the silent film era and finds himself obsolete in the advent of the talkies which sees the rise to fame of his lady love Peppy Miller who owes her success to Valentin who lovingly meant to her more than anything else. Glorious black and white in a refreshing visual style making all the more entertaining and capturing the bygone era and brought memories of early hollywood films and actors such as Errol Flynn, Clark Gable and Fred Astaire. Jean Dujardin deservingly won the Oscar's best actor for this one as well as a best supporting actress nomination for Berenice Bejo as Peppy Miller. Entertainment at its best. My ratings: 5 out of 5 Biscuits
